Curriculum
Our curriculum provides a full range of learning experiences to help students reach their full potential.
It supports students in achieving the outcomes outlined in their education,
Health and Care (EHC) Plans and prepares them for the next steps in their education.

At Blue Sky Independent, our approach is rooted in connection, equality, respect and self-awareness.
These values shape our curriculum, including Relationships and Health Education, and support our trauma-informed work to help young people build resilience.
We believe positive relationships—both with self and others—are essential to social, emotional and personal development.
High-quality Relationships and Health Education young people understand boundaries, consent, safety, wellbeing and healthy relationships at school, at home and in the wider community, preparing them for adulthood.

Blue Sky Independent is built on strong foundations — and we build those foundations the same way you build a Jenga tower: one steady block at a time.
As young people strengthen their wellbeing, confidence and relationships, they become ready to believe, aspire and achieve.

Enhanced House Library
Our Enhanced House Library is designed to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
It provides a wide range of accessible resources, including:
-
Interactive books and audiobooks
-
Sensory materials
-
Larger print books and visual aids

The library is a calm, inclusive space where students can explore their imagination, build confidence, and develop a love of reading at their own pace.
Through storytelling, guided reading, or quiet reflection, the library plays a key role in supporting both the educational and emotional growth of all our students.
Implementation
At Blue Sky Independent School, our curriculum is designed to put intent into practice.
We place equal importance on wellbeing, communication and interaction, cognition and learning, alongside the national curriculum core subjects. These are delivered through our full therapeutic offer and personalised curriculum, ensuring students are prepared for life beyond Blue Sky.

We use evidence-based approaches to identify the unique needs, strengths, and learning styles of every pupil.
From this, we create personalised learning plans that support both academic progress and emotional development.

Our staff team work collaboratively to make learning meaningful, relevant, and engaging. Lessons are carefully planned to be progressive and to spark curiosity, while meeting the individual needs outlined in each child’s EHCP. Past educational experiences and emotional readiness are always taken into account, so every child is supported at their own starting point.

We are committed to ensuring that all children can access the curriculum, make progress, and feel successful in their learning. No child is left behind.

Thrive Support at Blue Sky

At Blue Sky Independent School we use the Thrive Approach to help children develop their social and emotional wellbeing. Thrive gives children the tools to understand their feelings, build positive relationships, and become more resilient in their learning and everyday life.
Some children may need extra support, and our trained Thrive practitioner works with them through individual or small group sessions. Each session is personalised to meet the child’s unique needs and helps them feel safe, understood, and supported.
